Themed Manifest Files

To All

For several years I have been linking in the XP manifest file and it does make a distinct difference in the look of your application on Windows XP.

I have never really paid much attention, but I notice no benefit to linking the XP Manifest file on Windows 7 or 8 .. I can not tell any difference in the application appearance on Win7-8.

Without seeming brainless .. I guess that is why it is called XP Manifest file. Along those lines, is there such a thing as a themed manifest file for Windows 7-8?

Thanks

Rick,

When I use it (the XP one) on Windows 7/8 I see a clear difference on how the controls are painted. PushButtons, Gets and combos look quite different.

Haven't you noticed it ?

regards, saludos

OK .. I have a Windows 8 machine and here are the results and YES, there is a difference in the Field gets and the grouping but the controls look about the same... ( not using pushbuttons in this example ) The App on the left is without the XP manifest and the same app on the right has the xp manifest linked in.

Rick,

Hmm, did your graphic get cropped during posting?

James

I re-sized the MDI so I could put both examples side by side.

Hmmmm,

I have this specified in my .rc file:

1 24 "WindowsXP.Manifest"

However, I have the same visual effect as Rick showed where it was not linked in ...

Yes it is in there. Just curious, but I'm running in 64 bit OS, and the Manifest specifies x86.

Does that make a difference ?

I have just tested the different values shown here:
