Last Friday I was able to pick up my new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with its new keyboard cover. This one is an i5 processor with 256 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM.

Yes, you have plenty of room, power, and speed to actually use it as a programming computer. It's light, works anywhere, and has an amazing display. So far it has been flawless.

I expect this new device will replace a Samsung Slate tablet, a Samsung 17" notebook, and an iPad. All three will be sold and I will use this one exclusively. That sure provides for some nice space savings !

The docking station will arrive in August. It allows for external connections and charging. Thus, it will have access to a 2TB drive, external monitor ( if I want it ), and charging without a plug. Simply grab the device and take off to work elsewhere.

You may want to take a serious look at this device when it is available in your area. Its not simply a cheap tablet. It is a FULL computer running Windows 8.1 PRO.

Otto,

It does not have a SIM card. I see no advantage to that. It only allows the cell phone companies to charge additional fees. My phone has the ability to provide a Wi-Fi connection and I already have a personal Wi-Fi device from my cell company. I rarely use either one. Free WiFi is so abundant now that it's always possible to find a spot, and the rare times where it is not, I do have my cell wifi.

I have always recommended tablets without cell service and everyone has been happy. Besides, with all the auto updating apps available ( news, etc ) do we really want to use a cellular connection or just Wi-Fi ?

In the twenty-first century internet connections without additional device are a must. CAN NOT FORCE YOU TO WEAR TO A MOBILE PHONE What's wrong with Microsoft? How long must be doing crossing the desert to find out what are the requirements of your users? :-)

I suppose it is very easy to be critical of Microsoft. It seems to be a favorite activity of some people.

I totally and completely disagree with you. I see no benefit to a SIM card.

Also, with 32 years of experience, I see the positives that Microsoft contributes.

Tim, my country dont have a Microsoft store, (brazil), i have to stay with my surface 2 pro and surface RT.
recently I bought a budget lenovo ideapad miix2 8 and a ideapad 8, and despite being slow, I'm really enjoying. but of course that doesn't compare to the power of an I5 and design of Surface III.

regards

You need to talk to them about putting in a store. They have tech support centers there for the online Microsoft Store.
