Antonio is using the debugging. There is apparently an issue with my configuration and I need to get together with him to figure it out.

All of the setup info is found on this forum in several posts. Obviously it is quite doable because several people her have it all setup.

I thought of this afterward. Am I just using VS as editor? it seems the compiler and linker on both Borland and MS are just performing fine.
Now if I can use VS component/control to my FWH app then that's a turning point. can I? say devexpress..?
But I support the move. Nonetheless. But again, it has a huge footprint compare to my deprecated xmate which serves me well.. or my fancy editplus..

Imagine if FWH can be a component of VS or Delphi... then WOW!! I'll change my life right away!

To clarify,

I now have the error system working fine. There is complex debugging but I don't need that. I simply meant my errorsys was not working ... but I have that fixed.

I can compile and link with absolutely no problem. I don't know where that thought came from that it was difficult.

I use Visual Studio 2013 PRO. I also use Ultra Edit Studio. They are connected. When an error occurs, I fix it in UE, then press the Save button. Then in VS 2013, simply press Ctrl F5 and do the build ( and run ). It works smoothly.

Why use VS 2013 ? Because it opens an opportunity to do so much more, and yet allows us to retain use of FWH and our xBase programming skills.

For those of us who see value in that, this is a huge benefit to having such a powerful tool as VS 2013 Community available for FREE. If it is not a benefit for you, that is fine, but some may want to explore the opportunity.

At this stage, using Visual Studio or Borland will not make a difference for you. For none of us.

We are using just a C compiler as Enrico very well said

But if we are able to complete the project that Sarabjeet has been working on to help us, then things may change drastically

Also, for what I have heard (I have not tested it yet myself) the Visual Studio built in resources editor is finally available!!! It was removed in Visual Studio Express (a quite stupid desition) but now is back in the right place. We need to confirm this. So for now you have a source code editor and a resources editor, both free, in the same tool from Microsoft.

And if we finally are able to complete The harbour language extension, then we will live a real revolution Anyhow I recently posted the link to a video that Sarabjeet built for us and sadly I saw no comments at all about it, or maybe I missed them.

I was confused about what he built for us. What I saw was something for C files ... and I didn't know how that applied to us.

I have always had the resource editor in VS 2013 PRO. I don't use Express so I didn't know it wasn't there. I actually find it is easiest to modify dialogs in source code because I can just match up the row and column numbers for alignment. It is very easy.

Yesterday I completed the download of VS community. I will try it and see if it is suited to my needs.. as much as possible I am avoiding exposure to VB/C# for I am more of a Borland guy.. bias huh1?

I hope there is portability for xHarbour too..

yes, you are right.

Sarabjeet development is not for the final user yet. We are building the engine and now I see that its quite logical that it is not for everybody yet.

I have used Harbour only in my tests and developments. xharbour should work fine also (I can not guaratie it) but I have not tested it myself.

If you need to use xharbour as a must, then better keep using the same tools as usual

It sounds like you are only using Visual Studio to compile FW/Harbour with Microsoft's C. What is the advantage of MS C, vs Borland's C?

Why aren't you using the editor in Visual Studio?

I could use the editor in Visual Studio but it doesn't highlight the PRG info. That was the initial purpose of the project that is being built right now.

The entire project is contained in VS 2013, which creates it's own make files. Also I can work on resources in it. Everything is one place. It automatically includes the latest Microsoft libraries. If you want low level debugging, it is included.

I am also looking ahead. As Microsoft unifies this as the one central place to build cross platform applications, and as we fully integrate Harbour/FWH into it, I think it may well become possible to also work with other coding options all within one solution.

The bottom line is that it works well for me. I seriously have no interest in getting into a prolonged discussion or debate on this. I simply wanted people to know that VS is now available for free.

Tim, thanks for such a clear explanation.
This is an opportunity for us, FiveWin users, to have available the most advanced and standardized programming tools.
Also, after completed the VS-Fivewin project, is an opportunity for Fivewin becomes known more widely, especially in the US, as a modern programming language easy to use, comprehensive and versatile.
