Hello friends,

What conclusion do I draw from this survey?

There are still many who use DBF files, but overall I see that some of them are also considering moving to another database.

Although many still use DBF, most are unconcerned about how their web application will access DBF.

I have studied the databases intensively. We only deal with small amounts of data (a few tens of thousands of records) and have few users (usually no more than 10 concurrent users). DBF is optimal.

But now, with the web, I've had some problems.

Mod Harbour is complicated to install, and as Antonio always said from the beginning, it's important to reach a critical mass of users.

However, we are further away from this than we were years ago and the user base is even more fragmented!

ADS is proposed as a way to access DBF from PHP, but that's not a viable option—the future is uncertain.

The existing PHP extensions have also been inactive for a long time.

That's why I've taken matters into my own hands, and I think I'm on the right track.

Above all, it's fun to see how simple data access really is. It's much easier than before, since speed is no longer the issue it once was. PCs and SSDs are very speedy.

While we used to have to do everything possible to speed up applications, now there aren't as many problems.

Here's a nice example from real life. In our kitchen, the cook urgently had to answer the phone and told me to take the spaghetti off the stove as soon as they were done. I searched everywhere for the timer and was about to interrupt him on the phone to ask when they would be ready. Then I remembered that we used to always test a noodle—whether it was already al dente—and then we knew.
