Checking In / Is the Forum Active?

Hope everything is fine! Just checking the forum is still active, as it's been surprisingly quiet over the last two days. Looking forward to new posts!

Best regards

It is but perhaps people are investigating other resources.

In these times all of us have fallen in love with IA's, me be we have no time for friends and only spend out time with our new girlfriend...

AI is noticeably reducing forum activity. In the Harbour/xBase/FiveWin world, a shared roadmap is missing. The question is: What goals should we set?

In another forum I read, I recently saw these replies to a question. Out of sheer perplexity, a new subclass emerged: pure Dadaism. After someones matter-of-fact diagnosis (“RTL = Runtime Library; probably a wrong/different xpprt*.dll in the search path”), the thread tipped into chain-nonsense: “Mustard or ketchup?”, “Just trim the very tips!”, “Outside we only serve by the pot!”, “The quirkier, the swooshier.” → classic forum Dadaism

xDadaism.implement()
class xDataism
method streamOfTokens() =>
["Mustard vs. ketchup: A/B test",
"Trim endpoints only // preserve signal",
"outdoorService = potOnly(true)",
"↑weirdness ⇒ ↑entropy."]
end class

Dear Otto,

IMO our roadmap should be "adapt to change".

AI is changing everything and we must follow it.

To me this means: study it, find ways to apply it, find ways to use it to enhance what we have and use.

Some days ago I managed to fix a bug in hbmk2 for macOS. It was coded entirely by AI and worked fine. hbmk2.prg always seemed a scary beast (such a large PRG) and then suddenly, it was just a kids game for the AI :)

Anthropic's Lead Engineer Boris Cherny stated in a May 2025 podcast interview that about 80% of the code for Claude Code—a command-line tool powered by Claude 3.7 Sonnet for tasks like codebase analysis and multi-file edits—was generated by the AI itself, under human direction and review.

BTW. También lo sugerí en el foro harbour. Ni un sólo comentario al respecto.

Here's the English translation:

What's really curious is that up until now, or so it seems, no one has dared to make any modification/improvement to Harbour's core with AI programming. Is there so little interest in improving Harbour's core? Is the discredit of saying that AI has generated the code so great? So it appears that except for Antonio's modification in hbmk2, we can affirm without error that by some strange spell Harbour will not benefit from the advancement of AIs.

BTW. I suggested it in the Harbour forum. Not a single comment about it.

Querido Paco,

I rely on a primary AI (for me, ChatGPT). I use other models only as complements—for second opinions or special cases. I don’t let news and rankings rattle me: productivity comes from routine and a stable workflow.

I keep a personal AI handbook where I record answers, procedures, explained terms, and decision notes—so it’s clear what I did and why, and I don’t have to start from scratch each time.
