webinar HIX + Antigravity para Harbour:
Dear Antonio,
I watched the webinar — excellent work, respect and congratulations.
From a practical point of view, however, we already had most of this in place about five years ago with mod_harbour. Even back then, we were able to build web applications and CRUD systems very quickly using templates — which at the time were often dismissed as spaghetti code.
The releases, however, repeatedly failed because of release anxiety.
What we did not really learn was not the technology itself, but how to bring potential users into the web in a safe and structured way from an infrastructure perspective.
What was missing was a clear cookbook, a standard recipe.
And I think I have not lost my bet even after this talk:
Deploying an application with its own domain for the general public is a challenge — not technically, but mainly in overcoming release anxiety.
Perhaps such a Go-Live recipe, which we can continuously improve together, can help here.
Best regards,
Otto
Go-Live & Backup Checklist
A) Windows Server – Operation
Baseline
☐ Windows Server runs stably
☐ Web application starts without errors
☐ Logs are written and readable
☐ Application is READ-ONLY for the initial go-live
B) Data Backup → Synology NAS
(Time-based versioning)
Hyper Backup
☐ Hyper Backup installed on the Synology
☐ Source: Windows Server
☐ Target: Synology NAS (local share)
☐ Schedule: hourly
☐ Versioning enabled
Versioning Scheme (recommended)
☐ 24–48 hourly versions
☐ 14–30 daily versions
Verification
☐ Multiple versions visible
☐ Individual files can be restored for testing
C) System Backup → External Drives
(Disaster recovery)
Windows Server Backup
☐ Windows Server Backup installed
☐ System state + data included
☐ 2–3 incremental backups per day
Drive Rotation
☐ At least 2–3 external USB drives available
☐ Daily drive rotation
☐ Active drive clearly labeled (date / weekday)
Verification
☐ Backup completed successfully
☐ Restore option visibly available (do not execute)
D) Access / Internet
Cloudflared (Minimal setup)
☐ Cloudflared runs as a service
☐ No open inbound ports
☐ External access works
E) Go-Live Check (5-Minute Routine)
☐ Synology versions up to date?
☐ External backup drive connected?
☐ Application reachable?
☐ Logs calm and clean?
☐ Write access still disabled?
F) After Go-Live (1–3 days)
☐ Check logs 1–2 times per day
☐ Data behavior plausible?
☐ No creeping side effects?
Only then:
☐ Enable write functions selectively
☐ Keep the old version available
File / data issue?
→ Synology NAS → select version → restore
Server down / Windows dead?
→ External USB drive → Windows Server Backup → restore
☐ I know where to restore data
☐ I know how to recover the server
☐ I can always roll back
☐ I sleep well
Dear Otto,
Five years ago there was no AI
Dear Antonio,
You’re right about AI.
But mod_harbour was already there, and with templates we were able to solve many things very well.
What was never really solved cleanly, however, was the step of going live.
This is just a hint: very often, the things that ultimately determine success are precisely the ones that get overlooked.
Release anxiety—especially with in-house development and self-hosting—is completely normal. It does not stem from incompetence, but from a strong sense of responsibility.
This fear cannot simply be argued away, but it can be reduced systematically: through technical safeguards, through conscious and psychologically sound channeling, and through a clear, repeatable standard for deploying applications.
Best regards, Otto
Dear Otto,
I also think mod_harbour is a better way to develop internet apps. I really would like to see mod_harbour being improved, maybe with use of some IA like AntiGravity.
Dear Antonio, I've already emailed you to confirm my registration for the webinar. Please read that email about the C compiler update and let us know when you plan to send the update to FWH. Thank you.

Dear Roberto,
I just sent you an email :)
Dear Antonio, When are you going to send FWH 25.12 for those who confirmed assistants in the webinar?
